Can I take Sutab with Gatorade instead of water?
For a safe prep and complete exam, you MUST drink all of the water specified. You may drink more fluid if you wish. This may be water, iced tea, lemonade, white grape juice, Crystal Light, Gatorade, etc. Do NOT drink any milk products.
The clear liquids you can drink include: Water, apple, or white grape juice; fat free broth; coffee or tea (without milk or creamer); clear carbonated beverages such as ginger ale or lemon-lime soda; Gatorade® or other sports drinks (not red); Kool-Aid® or other flavored drinks (not red).
Split-dosed MiraLAX/Gatorade was an effective, safe, and tolerable option for bowel preparation before colonoscopy in the low-risk patients in this study. MiraLAX/Gatorade appears to be more tolerable than Golytely as a bowel cleansing regimen and was the preferred agent by the patients in this study.
Regular Gatorade, Gatorade G2, Powerade or Powerade Zero are acceptable. Pick up your Suprep prescription from the pharmacy.
Drink 8 glasses of water or other liquids during the day to avoid dehydration. Stop eating any nuts, seeds, corn, or popcorn. STOP eating all solid foods. START your clear liquid diet.
SUTAB is a split-dose (2-day) regimen. A total of 24 tablets is required for complete preparation for colonoscopy. You will take the tablets in two doses of 12 tablets each. Water must be consumed with each dose of SUTAB, and additional water must be consumed after each dose.

One 64-ounce bottle AND one 32-ounce bottle of Gatorade, Propel, Vitamin Water, Crystal Light, or other noncarbonated liquid drink. Colors you can use include clear, yellow, orange, or green. You cannot drink anything that is colored red, blue or purple.
Acceptable options include: Regular Gatorade®, Gatorade G2®, Powerade®, Powerade Zero®, Pedialyte®, Propel®, Liquid I.V. ®, and other electrolyte beverages. Do NOT use red flavors; all other colors of flavors are okay (yellow, green, orange, purple, blue).
The bowel preparation solution will be consumed in two parts. Mix 1/2 of MiraLAX bottle (119 grams) in each 32-ounce Gatorade bottle until dissolved. Keep cool in the refrigerator. DO NOT ADD ICE.
Is Sutab better than liquid prep?
A study published in 2020 showed that the SUTAB colonoscopy prep was 92% effective in bowel cleansing for a colonoscopy compared to 89% effectiveness of the liquid prep.
You must stay on a clear liquid diet all day for breakfast, lunch and dinner! Clear liquids include: water, jello, juice (no pulp), Gatorade, lemonade, any pop, tea, black coffee, popsicles and clear bouillon. No red liquids.
Fill the container with cold water to the 16 ounce fill line and drink the entire amount. You may add a Crystal Light flavor packet, Ginger Ale, Clear Soda or Apple Juice to the solution, if you prefer.
You must drink only clear liquids before your colonoscopy. Be sure to drink at least two tall glasses (at least 8-10 ounces each) of clear sports drink with electrolytes prior to your colonoscopy.
THE EVENING BEFORE THE PROCEDURE
A poor prep can mean missed lesions (flat polyps) and cancellation and rescheduling of your procedure. Starting at 6:00 p.m. (first dose, this CAN NOT be done earlier in the day.) 1.
You can eat solid foods the day before you undergo the procedure! That's right. You don't have to starve yourself by consuming only clear fluids like broth and Popsicles (and not even cherry-flavored, because they're the color of, well, you know) to prepare for a colonoscopy.
What if I've taken all my preparation and am still passing solid stool on the day of my exam? In this case, your procedure will need to be rescheduled. You may be prescribed a different preparation for your next procedure. Please call the triage nurse to reschedule your procedure with a different preparation.
If you have waited more than 3 hours without a response, then it may not be working well. Be sure you are drinking enough fluid. If that doesn't work, drink the second part of your prep and continue to drink fluids. It should work eventually.
Walking around helps the prep go down. You may reduce rectal soreness from the prep by cleansing with baby wipes after bowel movements and then applying zinc oxide to the skin in the rectal area. The prep may seem difficult but it allows the physician to see the lining of your colon clearly.
Your body will lose a significant amount of fluid during the bowel preparation. To prevent dehydration, drink as much fluid as you can before, during, and after consuming the preparation solution.
Can I take all 12 Sutab at once?
Administration of two doses of SUTAB (24 tablets) are required for a complete preparation for colonoscopy. Twelve (12) tablets are equivalent to one dose. Water must be consumed with each dose of SUTAB and additional water must be consumed after each dose.
Acceptable clear liquids include: water, tea, Apple juice, Ginger ale, Sprite, 7UP, Gatorade, Powerade, Vitamin Water, Crystal Light. Black coffee is considered a clear liquid. However, milk and cream are not considered clear liquid and please do not add them to your coffee. Please be sure to avoid any red liquids.
It's typically a mix of two liters of Gatorade or Propel (sports drinks that help balance the body's electrolytes) and the over-the-counter laxative Miralax or its generic equivalent. Many doctors also ask their patients to take laxative tablets.
A sports drink like Gatorade® or Powerade® is a good choice. Sports drinks will help replace electrolytes that you will lose during the bowel preparation. If you have diabetes, be sure to get sugar-free clear liquids.
It is very important that you remain well hydrated for a number of days prior to and after the procedure. Gatorade® or sports drinks will result in better hydration than drinking just water alone. Purchase a bottle of Miralax (238gm) at any pharmacy.

How can you tell if your colon is clean and ready for a colonoscopy? Your stool after finishing your bowel prep agent can act as a guide. Your stool should be clear, yellow, light and liquid. The presence of dark particles or thick brown or black stool means you are not ready for colonoscopy.
Step 1: Start half of your prep (½ gallon). You may have small sips of Sprite or Ginger Ale along with the prep to help settle your stomach. Step 2: Drink the first ½ gallon within two hours of when you begin drinking.
Will a colonoscopy prep keep you up all night? You make wake up once or twice to go to the bathroom, but it shouldn't keep you up all night. However, some people are required to wake in the middle of the night to take a second dose of laxatives at least four to six hours before their procedure.
What drinks can you mix with colonoscopy prep?
If your prep is unflavored, you can add Crystal Light, Kool-Aid powder or mix it with water and lemon. However, stick with lemon, lime and orange flavors and avoid liquids with red or purple dye as they can interfere with colonoscopy results.
Diarrhea usually starts between 1 and 3 hours after starting to drink the fluid, and may last up to 3 hours, but then should stop.

Open 1 bottle containing 12 tablets. Fill the provided plastic cup with 16 ounces of water (up to the fill line). Swallow each tablet with a sip of water, and drink the entire amount of water (16 ounces) over 15-20 minutes.
Sutab involves taking 12 tablets at two different times with large amounts of water. Both require a prescription. If your insurance doesn't cover the prep, it can cost $100 to $150. An option that can be purchased without a prescription is Miralax liquid and Dulcolax tablets, often taken together.
If you can't finish the bowel prep, let the doctor's office know. Better to cancel and reschedule the appointment than to have an incomplete colonoscopy because your colon wasn't empty.
If you have diabetes purchase Pedialyte instead of Gatorade. If you are prone to constipation, we suggest you purchase two 14 day supplies of Miralax (or generic equivalent). Save one bottle for the day before the colonoscopy prep (see below).

The second dose of the preparation does not have the purgative effect as the first dose. The reason to take the second dose of the preparation as close as possible to the procedure time is to cleanse the right colon where flat polyps are seen.
Tap water, distilled water, deionized water or bottled water may be used. We recommend preparing and drinking Colyte at room temperature, not over ice, not refrigerated.
Ways to better manage the taste of your prep: Make sure the mixture is cold. Use Sprite, Ginger ale or pulp free lemonade to the mix the solution. Drink Mixture with a straw. Suck on a lemon, hard candy or eat sorbet after each sip.
How do you prevent electrolyte imbalance during colonoscopy prep?
Medications with the potential to cause fluid and electrolytes disturbances such as diuretics and antidepressants should be stopped or reduced in dose while the patient is undergoing bowel preparation.

Taking the Reglan or Zofran in advance of the prep should help reduce the nausea. 6:00 pm: Open one bottle of SUTABS provided in the kit. Add drinking water up to the 16-ounce line of the container. Swallow each tablet with a sip of water over 15-20 minutes and drink the entire amount of water in the container.
Bowel movements can take up to 3-4 hours after beginning the prep to start. Be patient, continue to drink liquids. If you have not had a bowel movement by 9:00pm the night prior to your procedure, you will need to reach the on call physician for further instructions.
You may add a Crystal Light flavor packet, Ginger Ale, Clear Soda or Apple Juice to the solution, if you prefer. AVOID FLAVORINGS THAT HAVE A RED OR PURPLE COLORING. 3. Drink two additional containers filled to the 16 ounce line with water over the next hour.
If you develop nausea or vomiting, slow down the rate at which you drink the solution. Please attempt to drink all of the laxative solution even if it takes you longer. If vomiting persists, or you are not able to finish the preparation, stop the preparation and call your physician's office for further instructions.
You may also have Gatorade, popsicles (except red or purple), Kool-Aid (except red or purple) and lemonade without pulp. No milk or milk products. This includes SlimFast, Ensure and protein drinks. Please make sure you drink plenty of clear liquids throughout the day.
If you think you can't drink your colonoscopy prep, a “split-dose” is a good option because it tends to be more tolerable.
Drink lots of clear liquids during the day. -At 6pm on you will dilute one 6oz bottle of Suprep with 10 oz of water and drink the entire amount. Over the next 2 hours you will need to drink an additional 32-oz of water. It is very important that you drink water only during this time.

— If the nausea is significant or if you do vomit, STOP the preparation for 30-60 minutes.
Fifty-two percent of all SUTAB and MoviPrep patients reported at least one selected gastrointestinal adverse reaction. More SUTAB patients reported experiencing nausea and vomiting than the competitor, with ≤1% of these reports considered severe.
You may have your first bowel movement about one hour after you start to drink the solution. You may continue to pass liquid stools up to two hours after you finish the solution.
What happens if I throw up while taking Sutab? Let your provider know right away if you threw up after taking Sutab. They can let you know if you need to repeat your dose, take an alternative medication, or reschedule your procedure for a different date.
